Borough Wines – a very different type of wine shop is opening today for the lucky folk of Kensal Rise
The opening marks a first for Borough Wines – establishing a presence in West London. They are hoping to develop a strong identity in NW London – not only amongst retail customers, but wholesalers too.
- Borough Wines Kensal Rise will be the company’s fifth shop, adding to its current retail outlets in Borough Market, Wilton Way (Hackney), Dalston Lane (Hackney) and Stoke Newington Church Street (as well as restaurants L’Entrepôt and Mayfields, both in Hackney).
- They assure us that they will continue to work with smaller producers over big brands to bring an interesting selection of drinks to its customers, stocking a range of great old world and new world wines, including many organic and biodynamic bottles, selected spirits and a wide selection of craft beers from microbreweries near and far.
- Borough will also be bringing its hugely successful signature Straight from the Barrel wine refill system to Kensal Rise customers, as well as introducing a ‘growler’ beer refill system, with beers from Meteor Beer in Hochfelden, France, and selected breweries in Hackney, east London.
- In addition, Kensal Rise customers will have the opportunity to enjoy wine and food in the new premises. A small range of wines will be served by the glass and will be complemented by a small tasting menu designed by Patrick Hanna, head chef at Borough Wines’ L’Entrepôt restaurant. The shop will be able to accommodate 15 tasting menu covers.
- Borough Wines claims “[It has] earned an enviable reputation since it was established in 2002, with its fresh, informal approach to wine retail that successfully bridges the gap between snooty specialist shops and faceless supermarket giants”.
They intend to bring “an extra buzz to the local high street, joining the growing number of stylish, forward-thinking retail outlets that have begun moving into the area”.
They add: “We are excited to be opening in Kensal Rise our first venture in West London, this will be an important store for us not only for retail but for our ever expanding wholesale department which will benefit from having a such a strong visual presence in West London”
